Thank You Winfield Chief Riner
Effective July 1, 2004 Winfield Chief of Police Douglas
Riner will retire after having served 38 years in the law
enforcement field, 14 as Winfield's Chief.
We at Crime Stoppers have a special link with Chief
Riner, he recommended our current Chairman to serve
on the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors representing
Winfield, back in 1992. Chief Riner's other noteworthy
accomplishments include: maintaining Winfield's crime
rate as one of the lowest in DuPage County, having
served as the President of the DuPage County Chief's
of Police Association, drafting the emergency
operations plan for the Village and organizing the
Winfield Emergency Management Agency.
Should the installation of the new Chief run past July 1,
Chief Riner has agreed to continue to serve until his
successor is ready to begin his or her duties.
Dumb Criminal Acts
A thief, after robbing a bank, ran out in the middle of a
busy street to try to blend in and escape from the
police who were chasing him. So, the crook ran into the
middle of a group of runners. What the thief didn't know
was that the group of runners was actually a group of
police academy recruits out for their morning run. I
don't think anything more needs to be said.
Chipping In To Fight Crime
Remember the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police will
sponsor a
golf outing on Friday August 27, 2004 at Urbana's
Stone Creek Golf Club that will benefit the Illinois State
Crime Stoppers Association.
The number of golfers is limited, so register your
foursome soon in the IACP golf outing for $75 per
person. ($75 entry fee includes light breakfast, range
practice before round, a round of golf, cart, lunch,
some beverages, and prizes.)
Collared shirt required at Stone Creek Golf Club.
If you can't make the outing or just don't play golf
but would like to show your support, sponsor a hole or
holes. There are two levels of single hole sponsorship:
a $100 Basic Sponsor and a $250 Gold Sponsor. A
$1,000 Platinum Sponsor will sponsor every hole. The
donation of $100 Basic Sponsorship or $250 Gold
Sponsorship includes: a sign with your business placed
at one tee along with your company name in the
program.
If you have any questions, want to register or
sponsor a hole, call Troy Daniels, Chairman, IACP 2004
Golf Outing, Deputy Chief of Police, Champaign Police
Department at 217-403-6909 or email him at
troy.daniels@ci.champaign.il.us. If you use email,
please title the email "Golf Outing" in the subject area.
