The theme of this year's Crime Stoppers Month
is "Caring for your Community" and the benefit Crime
Stoppers has in protecting people from crime while
keeping our streets safe.
Caring for your community is as simple as supporting
Crime Stoppers. Do your part to keep your streets safe
and show you are a caring citizen. If you know
someone involved in criminal activity, call Crime
Stoppers. Your tip may be the missing piece of a puzzle
that police need to solve a crime.
Radio station WDRV 97.1 FM (The
Drive) is broadcasting a public service announcement
to show their support of the DuPage Crime Stoppers
program. Listen for it on the radio or while on line.
You can show your support of this not for profit
community
crime fighting organization with a donation to the
reward fund. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1000 for
information leading to an arrest. We are doing our part
to put criminals behind bars, but we can't do it alone.
Please contribute to DuPage County Crime Stoppers
program to make sure money is available for rewards.
Caring for your community is giving support to Crime
Stoppers. See the Crime Stoppers web site for stats
and how to donate.
Did you know that Winfield and Glendale Heights are the
only communities in DuPage County to have a complete
complement of representatives on the Crime Stoppers
Board?
Crime Stoppers would like to see that change.
Anyone meeting the following criteria is eligible to
become a board member - you must be 18 years of age
or older, an American citizen, a DuPage County
Resident, pass a background check conducted by the
office of the DuPage County Sheriff, have access to
an
computer with a internet connection and e-mail. Swarn
officers are ineligible. Crime Stoppers meets the
forth Thursday of each month from 7:30 pm until 9 pm
in
Wheaton.
Seems the would be robber wanted some beer. He
decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a
liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he
lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at
the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the
would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious.
Seems the liquor store window was made of Plexi-Glass.
The whole event was caught on videotape.
Online Tip Capability
The DuPage County Crime Stoppers can now accept
tips
via the internet, through a 28 bit encrypted server
provided by Crime Stoppers Online. Check us out and
submit a tip.
Attention Readers - Crime Stoppers needs to increase
its newsletter readership. Chairman Hanlock will arrange
for a case of Crime Stopper coffee mugs to be picked
up by anyone who
supplies the most e-mail addresses of DuPage County
employees or residents. Verification will be done using
the February 2005 mailing.
See Something - Hear Something - Say Something, if it
makes you wonder call the Crime Stopper number
1-800-424-9119. Remember the Crime Stoppers web
site
is continually updated, so check often for the latest
