Representation Needed
Did you know that the DuPage County Crime Stoppers
will be hosting the Illinois State Crime Stoppers
Conference in May of 2006? Did you also know most
towns in DuPage don't even have a single
representative on the Crime Stoppers Board?
Crime Stoppers would like to see that change.
Anyone meeting the following criteria is eligible to
become a board member - you must be 18 years of age
or older, an American citizen, a DuPage County
Resident, pass a background check conducted by the
office of the DuPage County Sheriff, have access to
a
computer with an internet connection and e-mail.
Sworn
officers are ineligible. Crime Stoppers meets the
fourth Thursday of each month from 7:30 pm until 9 pm
in
Wheaton.
Gas is expensive and if you plan on stealing it, you'd
better make sure you get the correct fuel type. By
mistake two men in Indiana were arrested after their
getaway was apparently spoiled because their car
stopped running. The two men who thought they were
stealing unleaded gasoline from a construction company
instead filled the tank of their car with off-road-grade
diesel fuel.
After an employee of the construction company notified
the local police, the men were found about 20 miles
southeast of South Bend, as they were siphoning fuel
out of their car's tank.
The two men told the Elkhart County deputies that a
friend
had put the wrong fuel into the tank and they were
trying to empty it. The deputies noticed that the fuel
was the distinctive red color of off-road diesel.
"ICE" - In Case of an Emergency
By entering the acronym ICE - for In Case of
Emergency - into your cell phone's phonebook, users
can log the name and number of someone who should
be contacted in an emergency.
In an emergency situation, ambulance and hospital
staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next
of kin are and be able to contact them. It's as simple
as that, and for more than one contact name you can
use ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.
Stopping Crime One Call At A Time
In our last issue, Crime Stoppers offered a case of
Crime Stopper coffee mugs to the reader who supplied
the most new e-mail addresses, leading to an increase
in our
readership. Congratulations are due to Gail Ernst of
Warrenville for supplying the most new e-mail
addresses. Gail is the Administrative Secretary
to Chief Robert W. LaDeur of the Warrenville Police
Department.
