The DuPage County Crime Stoppers is the first Crime Stopper organization in the State of Illinois to adopt for permenant use, the all new national phone number of 1-800-222-TIPS.

The new number will help promote the branding of the name Crime Stoppers, assist with development of national corporate relationships, and provide a national media market.

Crime Stoppers encourages everyone to carry this number in their wallet, it could earn you up to $1000 cash.

    Choosing A Home Safe
    .
No one ever thinks they will be the target of burglary or fire until it happens, and by then it is too late to take the necessary steps to protect your home. Even a good insurance policy cannot replace your most precious items or sensitive paperwork once it has been stolen. A security safe or fire safe is a valuable investment and offers you peace of mind as well as security.

The three main categories of safe protection are: Security Safes - protection for cash and valuables such as jewelry or high value electrical equipment. Fire Paper Safes - protection for any type of paper documents from fire damage. Fire Data Safes - protection for computer media such as disks and back up tapes from fire damage. In some cases safes will offer protection in more than one category. However you should always consider the primary protection required as the most important factor. You should also consider the way the safe will lock as there are various options available for all types of protection. You can choose a traditional key lock, mechanical dial or the most popular method, electronic keypad requiring PIN code entry. There are time locks, key and combination, and even dual locks that require two people present to open the safe.

Once you have decided on the appropriate safe and lock type you should then consider where the safe will be located as insurance companies generally insist on the safe being bolted to the floor or a solid wall. The manufacturer makes this part easy by providing reinforced pre-drilled holes in the base of the safe allowing the safe to be secured to the floor from the inside. Some safes also include pre-drilled holes in the rear of the safe allowing a wall fixing although this is less common.

    Dumb Criminal Acts
    .
A man convicted of robbery worked out a deal to pay $9600 in damages rather than serve a prison sentence. For payment, he provided the court a check- -a *forged* check. He's now serving 10 years.
    Change Of Address
    .
Effective immediately the new US postal address for the DuPage County Crime Stoppers will be - P.O. Box 222 Winfield, Illinois 60190-0222.
Crime Stoppers is an extremely effective crime fighting concept that solves crime and keeps our streets safe. Crime Stoppers is a resource of all the law enforcement departments both locally and internationally and shows an average conviction rate of 95 percent. Crime Stoppers saves law enforcement agencies thousands of dollars in investigation time by offering a 24/7 hotline to which callers can report crime anonymously. Calls to Crime Stoppers assist in putting police on the right track by identifying individuals who are responsible for committing crimes. Today there are some 1,200 Crime Stoppers programs in 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Central America and the Caribbean. On an accumulative basis since 1976 tips to Crime Stoppers have been responsible for the arrests of around 600,000 individuals and led to the seizure of close to $7 billlion in stolen property and illicit drugs. Crime Stoppers does work and the DuPage County Crime Stoppers is in need of your donation in order to replenish their reward and general fund. Please help by sending your donations to P.O. Box 222 Winfield, Illinois 60190-0222.
